About FPL From Jamal

Hi, I’m Jamal.

I didn’t set out to build an app.

I joined a friend’s mini-league for a bit of fun. Somewhere between losing first place in the final gameweek and adding points together on a calculator, FPL became a problem I genuinely wanted to solve.

Where it started

One invitation changed how I watched football.

Around the 2022/23 season, a friend asked me to join his Fantasy Premier League mini-league. I was sceptical at first. I assumed it would be like one of the football manager games I had never really been interested in.

He explained that I simply had to choose a squad within a budget, so I gave it a go. I didn’t understand the chips, I made plenty of mistakes and I was learning as I went. Somehow, I still finished second—after losing top spot in the final gameweek.

The analyst took over

I wanted answers the FPL app couldn’t give me.

I’m a data analyst by nature. I studied accounting before completing a master’s degree in computer science, so once I became interested in FPL, analysing the numbers felt inevitable.

The official app was useful, but I found it restrictive. If I wanted to see a player’s performance across the last three gameweeks, I was adding points on a calculator—or trying to do it in my head. I kept feeling that I was missing opportunities to get ahead of my league.

At the same time, I knew how to automate data and turn it into a business intelligence report. So I began bringing the information together, experimenting with it and looking for better ways to plan players, fixtures and future gameweeks. Many nights disappeared into the data, alongside plenty of FPL videos and conversations online.

“I think of myself as a data translator: taking a large amount of complicated information and turning it into something clear enough to act on.”

How I see information

Different thinking became part of the design.

As someone who is neurodivergent, I often read and organise information differently from other people. Over time, I realised that one of my strengths is communicating a lot of complex information in a few clear sentences—enough for someone to understand what matters and decide what to do next.

My mind works logically, but the goal is not to overwhelm people with numbers. It is to find the story inside the numbers. That way of thinking is built into FPL From Jamal.

Still being built

The first report was only the beginning.

I initially built a simple report showing the top-performing players. Then I saw how much more could be done, so I kept building and improving it. Today the dashboard has two main areas—Fixtures & Strategy and Players & Teams—but there is still far more analysis I want to explore.

I’m planning a development area where I can test new ideas, learn from them and share the best ones with you. This project will keep moving because FPL keeps giving us new questions to answer.

Built through conversation

This project isn’t just mine.

Posting videos, going live and speaking with people who play FPL has helped me understand what you actually want to see. Every question, comment and conversation gives me another angle to consider—and often another idea to test.

Thank you for visiting the website and spending a little time with my story. If you see me live, please say hello. Tell me what you are analysing, what decision you are stuck on or what you would like the dashboard to explore next.
